Park City Restaurant Guide: A Culinary Adventure

Park City's dining scene offers a diverse range of culinary experiences, from innovative cocktails to freestyle Asian cuisine. Whether you're looking for a family-friendly spot, an après-ski lounge, or an elegant dinner, Park City has something for everyone.

Mountain Mixer Cocktail Contest

Park City’s most spirited showdown, the Mountain Mixer Cocktail Contest, came to a head on August 21 as ten of the town’s top mixologists competed live in the 2025 competition. The road to the finals began in July, when a secret panel of judges visited bars across Park City to sample more than 20 original cocktails submitted by local bartenders. No scoresheets. No warning. Just quiet, anonymous sips. After weeks of deliberation, ten standout cocktails were selected for the live competition.

At the finale, the vibe was anything but quiet. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed the stage at Silver Lake Lodge, with a packed room of spectators, flashing cameras, twin bar stations, and DJ Dolph setting the tone. The drinks weren’t the only things with personality.

From the nostalgic tea-inspired Nebbia by Katelyn Fraser to the tropical Filipino dessert homage in Charles Vincent Franco’s Ube Halo, the cocktails brought culture, history, and creativity to the forefront. Competitors delivered stories, spills, and style in equal measure, earning cheers from the crowd and feedback from the judges. AJ Anderson of Handle took home top honors with his cocktail, “Melt”-a thoughtful combination of whiskey and rum built around a frozen tropical juice cube that slowly melted into the drink. As time passed, the cocktail evolved in flavor, making each sip more complex than the last.

Beyond the drinks, Mountain Mixer highlighted the strength of Park City’s hospitality scene-the people behind the bar who not only craft great cocktails but create memorable experiences. Thank you to everyone who came out to sip, cheer, and vote. Sometimes the best of the mountains is found at the base of them.

Shabu: Freestyle Asian Cuisine

Chef Bob Valaika is the Executive Chef and co-owner of Shabu, on Park City’s historic Main Street. Here, “Asian fusion” takes a freestyle spin. Chef Robert attended Kendall College in Chicago where he earned his four-year culinary arts degree. Soon after, he heeded the mountains’ call and moved to Aspen, Colorado, where he trained under his mentor, Nobu Matsuhisa. Matsuhisa is known by many as the pioneer of sushi.

Chef Bob refers to his menu at Shabu as “freestyle Asian cuisine,” keeping a light, healthy, and flavorful style throughout. Bob and his brother, Kevin Valaika/General Manager, who manages the restaurant, have a playful, over-the-top style uniquely their own. It comes across in the way they ski powder every day before opening the restaurant-and in the way they wow guests with unexpected twists to beloved Asian mainstays. Chef Bob and Kevin selected a central location along Park City’s historic Main Street for Shabu.
